Czech institute registers 128 new HIV positive since January

Prague – Tests have revealed 128 cases of HIV-positive persons in the Czech Republic since January and that total number of those infected has been 1315, Hana Zakoucka, from the State Health Care Institute (SZU), told journalists today.
Last year, 148 people were found HIV-positive, according to SZU data. AIDS developed from infection with HIV virus in 29 persons. CLICK TO CONTINUE

For the first time, scientists at UC Davis and Mount Sinai School of Medicine have captured video footage showing the transfer of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from an infected T-cell to an uninfected one through an adhesive structure called a virological synapse. The researchers hope their breakthrough findings, which appear in the March 27 issue of Science, will lead to a new era in HIV treatment and revive hope of developing a vaccine to halt the virus that leads to AIDS.

Albanian HIV-positive dentist detained in Prague

Prague - Czech foreigner police detained an Albanian dentist in his surgery, who was ordered by the sanitary authorities not to execute his profession as he is HIV-positive, on Wednesday, foreigner police spokeswoman Jana Dudova said. Moreover, the foreigner was staying illegally in the Czech Republic as the validity of his visa expired last November, Dudova said. CLICK TO CONTINUE
Number of HIV-infected Czechs is on its all-time high

The total of 147 Czechs were infected with the HIV virus within the last year, which is the biggest increase ever since the the 1980’s. The highest numbers of infected individuals are registered in Prague (466) and Ustecko (NW of Prague). The lowest numbers of HIV-infected Czechs can be found in the Pardubice area (9) and Vysocina (11). According to the European center for infectious diseases, about 1/4th to 1/5th of of HIV-infected individuals actually do not know that they have the virus, which makes it approximately 300 extra individuals affected with this virus...
